Space Technology and Disaster Management - Global Network and Regional Task Forces

In order to contribute to increasing the use of space technology in the area of disaster management in developing countries and in countries with economies in transition, the Office for Outer Space Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, within the framework of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications, has been carrying out a series of activities aiming at helping institutions form partnerships and define and implement projects and activities that incorporate space technology solutions.

The initial step that will lead to helping institutions from developing countries to incorporate such technologies is through the definition of regional task forces, which together form a global network. These regional task forces will enable the coordination of the efforts of the various interested institutions within a specific region. These institutions will work together primarily using the Internet and facsimile, providing information to all other interested institutions on activities being proposed or carried out and helping foster viable partnerships among the different initiatives and interests. Once partnerships have been defined, a further step is to identify activities that the institutions can jointly carry out.

Interested institutions are invited to join the network by downloading the form below and faxing it to the fax number included in the form. The Office for Outer Space Affairs will maintain the global network updated and contribute to the consolidation of the various regional task forces, periodically verifying the information on the institutions that have demonstrated interest in participating, the names of points of contact and areas of participation. The Office will also focus on bringing into the network interested space agencies and development agencies.
