UN/Austria/European Space Agency Series of Symposia

Since 1994 the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, in the framework of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications, the Government of Austria and the European Space Agency (ESA) in cooperation with other co-sponsors have been organizing a series of space-related Symposia in Graz, Austria.

The Symposia address a wide range of space-related issues, such as the contributions of space technology and its applications to enhancing social, economic and environmental security, the potential of space for improving life, the cooperation of space industry in industrialised and developing countries, economic benefits of using space technology as well as the enhancement of the participation of youth in space activities. Following the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2002, the Graz Symposia were re-oriented to become a vehicle for the promotion of space-related activities contributing to carry out the WSSD Plan of Implementation.
